Taco TWOsday!
Birthday parties are my specialty. I love thinking of a theme and pulling everything together on a budget! I shared on the blog ideas and pictures from my older daughter’s third birthday, last August. It was a Donut Grow Up theme and she LOVED it! I think everyone did. I mean, who doesn’t love donuts??
In January, my younger daughter Emery, turned two. For her birthday we had a Taco TWOsday themed party! It was so much fun. When thinking of how we wanted to decorate we decided to do incorporate fiesta decor: bight colors, flags, blankets, and even a piñata! I am not usually a piñata girl, but I couldn’t help myself with this theme. I ended up ordering one that was shaped like a taco, it was adorable and perfect! And of course, the kids LOVED it. The adults enjoyed laughing at the kiddos swinging away.
I bet you can’t guess what we ate at the party…. Yup, tacos. We had a full taco bar, with guacamole and cheese dip of course! It was easy because we made the meat ahead of time and left it warming in the crock pot. This party, I did a lot of prep the day before so that I could just lay things out and focus on getting the girls ready. I chopped toppings and grated cheese; placing them all in individual bowls and covering them until morning.
We always play games at our parties. This time we played a game where people guessed and wrote down answers to things Emery likes or loves. The winners always win something on theme. This time it was a Taco Bell gift cards, LOL! This is fun and competitive, especially between the family.
I love a good balloon arch, so of course we had one this time too. I used tons of colors and it made such a pretty Photo Booth backdrop. Everyone put on a funny face and grabbed a prop to snap a picture. Here are some of out cute friends and family!
Publix cakes have never steered me wrong. Every time we have an event I take a Pinterest picture up to our local Publix and see if they can make something similar. So far, its been great each time! Publix prices are very reasonable and they have told me they love to have a more challenging cake every once in a while. Publix also will make a FREE smash cake for your baby’s first birthday, as long as you order your larger cake from them. You just have to tell them! We did this with both of our girls. This time I found a simple cake in their look-book and asked for them to add small tacos to the top of it. It was cute!
Every party, I seem to buy more Photo Booth props. As you can imagine, I now own way too many props and need a full bucket just for paper cut outs… LOL! It ends up working out pretty well, because I have had other friends use the props at their parties too. So they are getting used more than once! Amazon is the best place to find props. Trust me, you can get a large pack for cheap! And they are adorable. I also buy my balloons and banners on Amazon. I love that I can click a button and have my party supplies show up at my front door.
It took me way to long to share about this fun birthday party. I promise I will do better about the next one - just wait to see the theme! AND if you ever need a party planner, hit a girl up! ;)
I always try to think of a fun party favor! Something someone will not just throw away as soon as they leave. I hate the idea of spending tons os money on favors and it all being tiny + cheap pieces of junk. LOL! We have had some fun ones in the past: cotton candy, donut holes, and homemade sugar scrub. This time I decided to do on-theme sugar cookies made by a local bakery in Huntsville. They turned out adorable! Plus, they were super yummy! The taco cookies were a hit and something that I knew would get eaten/used. Since my kids are still young a lot of people who attend their parties are adults, so I try to choose something people of ALL ages would enjoy.
